Teddy Bears’ Picnic – Saturday 11th August

Colts & Fillies club members had a great race meeting in August with members coming to The Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Meeting to enjoy the Teddy Bears’ Picnic. 100 members of the Colts & Fillies Club were invited to join Yogi, Boo Boo and Scotty the Ascot Mascot for a picnic in the Old Paddock.

As the hottest raceday of the year so far, it couldn’t fail to be a success. All of the Colts & Fillies members came with their favourite teddy to pick up their free picnic basket and find a spot on the brightly coloured rugs scattered across the Old Paddock. All the excitement started as Scotty and friends arrived on the Mascot Mobile to run riot. After the smaller members of the party got over the shock of the life-sized bears the fun really started.

The scene was set with a Jazz Band performing to their young audience which created a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, whilst the Ascot members of staff went round to welcome Colts & Fillies members and their parents. As the afternoon came to a close a lively and interesting talk was given by the Svend Kold, the Ascot equine vet. Fun was had by all!

Watch out for the event next year!  Invitations are sent out with the Summer ‘Turf Talk’ so keep an eye out to find out how to apply for your place on the Teddy Bears’ Picnic.

Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials – Rosette Girl

The Colts & Fillies Club would like to say a big thank you to Rebecca Hetherington for performing a very professional job as a rosette presenter at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials on Sunday 2nd September 2007.

Rebecca HetheringtonRebecca was a great ambassador for the Colts & Fillies Club and everyone was very proud of the way the rosette was presented.

Watch out for other competitions in the next edition of ‘Turf Talk’.

Windsor House Stables, Lambourn – Wednesday, 8th August

The Colts & Fillies Club had an excellent visit to the Windsor House Stables in August. We were warmly welcomed by Mr and Mrs Dunlop and everyone at the yard.

The whole visit was non stop; as soon as we arrived we were whisked off in a convoy up to the gallops where we arrived just in time to see the third lot advance over the hill. It’s not until you hear the pounding of the hooves and see these magnificent animals up close that you realise how graceful the thoroughbred horses really are.

But that was just the beginning we hurried back to the training field to learn about the first few weeks in a young horses training career and to see the starting stalls – which we were able to stand in. This was followed by a guided tour of the yard itself including the feed, bedding, the colours room and a chance to meet each horse and learn about their personalities. The highlight of the day was the chance to watch a horse swim! This was magnificent as the great creature launched itself into the pool and was lead around for a few laps. The horse loved it with lots of excited snorts matched by the cheers from all the Colts & Fillies members. The day was finished with a drink and the chance to take photos of the day.

Don’t worry if you missed out we will be doing the same sort of events again next year!
